About Genevieve
According to legend, when I was four years old, I offered my mother a drawing by my own hand. Instead of simply patting my head and saying 'good job, kid,' she pointed at her forehead and asked me if that's where eyes are.
I was an early recipient of simple anatomical lessons that caught me high praise from elementary school teachers who probably should have made sure I could do long division—but maybe they also knew in their hearts that understanding basic proportions couldn't hurt.
I am still exploring and learning. I enjoy photography, and use the photos I take as references for some of my art. I primarily work with watercolors and colored pencils, but have been known to dabble with acrylics, pen and ink, wood carving, wood burning, stone carving, and block printing.
What’s with the horror pet portrait stuff?
My inspiration comes from a lifelong (and very millennial) fascination with zombies, animals, and the brutal biological circle of life. My friends and I send photos to each other of interesting roadkill and other dead things, and then we draw them.
Before I had my telephoto lens, which I now use to capture the photos of birds that I reference for my watercolors, the best way to get close to wildlife was waiting for it to die. If that sounds a little morbid… well… it is. It definitely is.
An example of early artistic genius.
Note the anatomical accuracy and attention to detail.
